How to control your computer from your phone — free, nothing to install
Left a file on your home computer, or need to click something on your work PC? With RudyDesk you do it from your phone in a minute.
What to install on the computer
Install the RudyDesk app from rudydesk.com/download on the computer you want to control — without it the browser won’t let you move the mouse. Set a permanent password in the app: then you can connect even when nobody is there.
What you need on the phone
Nothing to install: open rudydesk.com/app in Safari or Chrome. To keep it handy, add it to the Home screen — it opens like a regular app.
How to connect
- Enter the computer’s 9-digit ID or pick it in “My devices”.
- Enter the permanent password. It never goes to the server or the network: sign-in is confirmed with a one-time challenge.
- A couple of seconds later you see the computer’s screen.
How to control it
- Your finger works like a trackpad: slide to move the cursor, tap to click.
- A long press holds the button down — that’s how you drag windows and files.
- The keyboard button opens the phone keyboard; letters appear on the computer right away. You can also dictate text by voice.
- Special keys (Ctrl, Alt, Win, F1–F12) are on a separate panel.
- The pointer lets you draw over the screen — handy when you’re helping someone.
If the computer is asleep
A sleeping computer doesn’t answer. RudyDesk can wake it: through another device on the same network, on a schedule (“mailbox”), or with an ESP32 board that costs a couple of dollars. Details are in the article about waking.
A limit
From an iPhone or iPad you can view and control other devices, but you cannot share the phone’s own screen — Apple doesn’t allow it.
